About the author: Miguel Castilla Marti

Miguel Castilla Martí (MD, PhD, FEBO, FMH) is an ophthalmic surgeon working across anterior segment surgery and medical and surgical retina, based in Valais, Switzerland.

He completed his medical degree at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (2007) and his ophthalmology training at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2012). His doctorate in Medicine and Surgery, awarded cum laude by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (2016), addressed optical quality and intraocular straylight. In 2014 he undertook a research fellowship in retinal disease and ocular inflammation at the MIOS Retina and Inflammation Unit in Switzerland, under Prof. Marc D. de Smet. Earlier in his career he taught at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Universitat Pompeu Fabra and carried out research at the Institut Municipal d'Investigacions Mèdiques (IMIM).

His academic interests include optical quality and straylight, intraocular lenses, and retinal imaging biomarkers. He is a member of EURETINA, ARVO, and the Swiss Ophthalmological Society (SSO).
